The Southwest Chief (No. 4) in early morning western New Mexico light,
I am what railroad people call a "foamer." (I assume that's because we foam at the mouth when we see a train? Or even some empty track.) A more polite term is "rail fan." And while it is not easy to make an original photograph of a train that says something new, I'll never stop trying. It's too much fun. Besides, the Southwest Chief follows along the Santa Fe Trail, the route of the Santa Fe's Super Chief, and the Mother Road, Route 66. The route is dotted with history and beautiful landscapes in which to make train photographs.
